About Ushibuka Haiya Festival

Ushibuka is the birthplace of the Haiya folk song originating from the latter Edo Period.
“Ushibuka Haiya-Bushi“ is regarded as the root of 40 other places’ series of Haiya folk songs.
Ushibuka was an important port of sea travel and lots of fishing vessels called at the port in spring.
The sailors and the women of Ushibuka enjoyed dancing and singing together and this is said to be the origin of “Ushibuka Haiya-Bushi”.
